Hello everyone!
Hi Elin. Thanks so much for letting me drop by to introduce my new MM erotic romance novel, Port In A Storm.
Port really was a labour of love, more so than any other book I’ve written to date, simply because I absolutely fell for my characters from the get-go and wanted to tell their story as best I could. That’s not to say I don’t always love my characters. I do. But with Alex and Jake that love went a little deeper, I think because they are very much a mash-up of myself at various stages in my life and friends, family and people I used to know.
Jake is my perfect romantic hero. Suitably tall, strong and handsome, he’s independently wealthy with a penchant for travel and a secret that forces him to keep his past a mystery from all around him. He’s a little bit untameable, a little bit damaged, a big bit free-spirited and a lot sexy. I fell for him straight away – indeed he popped into my head first and was the reason for me writing the novel, but it wasn’t until I really started to tell his story that I realised Jake needed someone. Someone who seemed to be his polar opposite, but in fact would turn out to be not so dissimilar after all.
Enter Alex. Alex is a recent university graduate. His father runs a successful law firm in Glasgow and he has always wanted Alex to join the family business, but there’s a problem with that. To say Alex has a bad relationship with his stepmother would be an understatement. Alex blames his stepmother for his mum’s death and knows that he can’t face working in an office with her so instead, he finds himself stuck behind the counter of a coffee shop at Edinburgh Airport wondering what on earth to do with his life.
I have a soft spot for Alex because for me, he’s what so many young people are in their early twenties. Desperate to prove themselves, to be successful, to be appreciated and to make their families proud of their achievements and in Port In A Storm Alex is in the unfortunate position of experiencing what it feels like to be none of those things. As the novel progresses and his relationship with Jake strengthens, Alex finds the ball firmly in his court as he tries to decide what price to put on his own happiness, and just how much he is willing to give up to be with Jake. For Alex, those aren’t easy questions to answer, despite Jake’s reminders that you have to ‘be happy while you’re living, for you’re a long time dead’.

Blurb
Alex is stuck in a rut. He’s facing a big decision about his future, namely, what to do with it and so far he hasn’t managed to come up with an answer.
Until he meets Jake.
Jake blows through Alex’s world like a hurricane and Alex falls hard and fast for the perpetual traveller with a penchant for secrets and a perfect smile. Jake wants Alex, but life isn’t as simple as that.
Jake never settles in one place for long and already their long-distance relationship is driving a wedge between Alex and his family. With no compromises on offer, Alex’s decision about his future becomes a decision about Jake.
For Alex, the idea of losing Jake doesn’t bear thinking about, but choosing him looks like it will mean throwing away everything Alex knows, including his relationship with his parents. And so, Alex finds himself with another question to answer.
How much would you be willing to give up, to be happy?
Excerpt
The man walked up to the door of the last pod in the row and produced a swipe key. He opened the door, pulled Alex inside, and resumed their kiss before the door even shut behind them. Only when the man broke away to catch a breath did Alex get a chance to look around.
The space was small, a little carbon-fiber hut with just enough room for a small double bed and cupboard, and a small bathroom hidden from view behind a partition wall.
The man’s duffel bag took up most of the floor space, but there was still more than enough room for what Alex wanted to do. For what he wanted this man, this stranger to do to him. Before the man could kiss him again, though, Alex needed to know one thing.
“What’s your name?”
The man lifted Alex right up into his arms as if Alex weighed no more than a sack of potatoes and carried him to the bed.
“Jake.”
“Jake?”
“Yeah. Now, get your clothes off.”
