May the 4th be with you and all that. So today I suppose I should post some slashy Star Wars fanfic but naaaah, I wouldn’t inflict that on the group.
What group? Well the Seductive Studs and Sirens group of course, where authors band together to provide 150 word snippets of their work either published or from their WIPs and bloggers write about the same length pieces about LGBT themed works or authors. Last week I wrote about Surviving an American Gulag by Edward C Patterson which I have now finished – terrific with a great ending – this week I want to recommend Masked Riders by Parhelion, a shortish story set in the Old West – California in 1869 – which has all the Parhelion trademarks of pin-sharp characterisation and spot-on historical research plus entertaining, gritty, realistic plots, well-drawn emotions and laconic sex scenes that tell the readers what’s what without dwelling on the details. Parhelion is always a treat and this account of an ex-Union officer and a top hand investigating eldritch occurrences on a ranch near what will one day be Los Angeles is no exception. Highly recommended at about halfway through. Can’t wait to see what happens.
I love your posts – introducing me to books I would otherwise have not known about! And I was just given the gift of On a Lee Shore this last week! Haven’t had the chance to read it yet, but am looking forward to it:)
🙂 I read all around the edges of the genre and come across some brilliant books that don’t get nearly the amount of attention they should. Parhelion, for instance, is a star but terribly secret and doesn’t do any promotion as far as I know. But his/her stories quality speaks for itself.
Fingers crossed you enjoy OALS. It’s not a proper romance – much more like Treasure Island or Captain Blood, plus a bit of repressed angst. 🙂
Thank you for the rec! 🙂
Hmmm… A little something to add to my GIGANTIC reading list. Thanks, Elin!
