I’m picking up almost from where I left off last week. Troop three is off to collect firewood, Cynfal persuaded Gwion he might like to go and when he turned up Cynon agreed, with a few reservations.
~
Gwion turned his head, searching the line of trudging men with eyes bright with mischief. He found Cynfal gave him a little nod too and spun the stallion to trot him back along the line. At first Cynfal thought he was the goal but the white pony, Swan, had other ideas. Ears pricked, he huffed a squeal of recognition and almost pulled Cynfal’s arm out of socket as he darted to meet the stallion. They met nose to nose, snuffling loudly and Gwion smiled.
“Friends,” he explained.

More next week.
Aww, that’s a lovely six, Elin. I can just picture the pony and the stallion nose to nose. 😊
I love watching them do that. There’s often a little edge, a bit of threat there, reminding each other who’s boss, but then they settle down. In this case the boss is Swan, of course! 🙂
Your six sentences are always so interesting. I go through my WIP, looking for just the right sentences and can never quite manage it, so I don’t post. Either all your sentences are wonderful (which wouldn’t surprise me) or you get lucky. 🙂
Aww you say such nice things. Thank you. Actually I have to pick and choose pretty carefully. Luckily, it’s a long piece so I can usually find something..
You inspired me. I posted my own six sentences, plus I linked back to yours. 🙂 Thanks.
[…] by Elin Gregory, who always posts wonderful sentences, I decide to post six of my own. This is from The Lightning […]
This is indeed a nice Six, Elin. And I’m glad to know that at least one other person besides me has to pick and choose what to use for SSS!
Thanks Marcia. It’s quite hard to choose – hard to find a bit that works. There’s one bit I would have loved to use – Pup gives Cynfal and Aeddan some cheek so they chase him down the hill, catch him and Aeddan holds him down while Cynfal paints a mud beard and moustache on him. Six from the beginning make it look as though they might be going to beat him up, six from the end make it look like they are being gratuitously cruel for no good reason. You need the whole couple of paragraphs to get the sense of it.
The pony and stallion add to the beautiful essence of this six. You’ve done well! Great six as always!
Thanks Frank 🙂
Ah, sweet 6! I could totally picture it!
I’ve seen it a few times – the clouds of breath, the ears flicking back and forth and the excited squeals. Its fun to see. 🙂
Well horses need friends too – lovely excerpt
Oh they do! They become very attached to each other. Thank you 🙂
A cute six! 🙂
Thanks 🙂
Such lovely imagery! Well done. 🙂
I love this. Very sweet. You have a knack for description. I could easily picture it. Great six.
Aw, love that the horses have taken control of the situation. 🙂
I love the combination of what’s going on with the horses along with their riders. Lovely images.
Trust a stallion to find his favorite mare!
Sweet six, Elin. Brought a smile to my lips.
I love these characters. And I always love the subtle humor underlying all of it. Great six. 🙂
It’s nice to see Gwion happy and full of mischief. I like these two together. 🙂
Such a cute six, Elin! Love the way you can make the meeting of horses seem like the most interesting thing! Awesome job! 🙂
Cute six there.
As JM said, I like the representation of the horses and riders. Nicely done, Elin.
That’s great about the horses “show” of friendship. Nice Six, Elin!
Aww…that was really sweet!
