Normally in November I would be shut away in one of the bedrooms, hammering away at a keyboard to try to keep up with Nanowrimo, but this year I have decided to be a Nano rebel. Instead of writing a novel I am editing one and I’ll make a start on my Nanowrimo attempt when that’s done.
The log baskets are full, there’s a casserole in the oven, the pup is asleep on the hearth rug and the cat is dozing on top of the fire. Yes, on top of it.
She feels safe up there. Wilf can’t reach her.
I have tea, a box of fudge, and my laptop and I’m snip snip snipping odd words here and there.
It’s odd to see how my word use changed during the 18 months it took me to write the novel. I’m taking out far less half way in, than I was at the beginning. I think as I got into my stride with it I grew to trust myself a bit more and didn’t feel the need to repeat things incase I hadn’t made myself sufficiently clear the first time.
Soon I’ll have to add a couple of extra scenes and for that I’ll need to shut myself away but for now I’m warm and comfortable and the job is sort of fun.
What’s your favourite winter place?
Hi Elin, you writing corner looks so cosy and comfortable. It’s lovely to think that you are working away writing at the same time! And than you for your lovely kind and generous words which you left on my blog. I was feeling more than a little lost, but thanks to you and the others I am delighted to report that I have got over myself!!! I have no idea why I get so tied up in knots, especially since I know that writing anything and not worrying about what the inner critic has to say just means that NaNo is all about having fun! Thank you again. I am so gla that I found you when I did! Good luck with your re-writing! xxx
Well I’m doing NaNo for the first time. I would prefer to be on the beach in Cuba….
On the couch under something warm (this could be man-made, or just plain man). I also like the bed for reading, writing, or whatever. ;/
My favorite place is a lonely beach – ha! (because it doesn’t get that cold here). I think your cat’s got her tail down just to tease Wilf.
Favorite winter place? In front of the fire, with a sleepy, purring moggy 😉
Good luck with your Nano editing frenzy!! I’m doing the same – I was tempted to use the Nano energy to finish writing my current WIP, but I really need to get the first half edited to satisfaction before I press on
