I was awful last week and didn’t reply to my comments. I’m so sorry. However I think I managed to at least READ every entry on the Six Sunday list. Well worth doing because some of them are terrific.
As usual it is from A Fierce Reaping, my story set in Scotland and Northumbria in the early 7th century AD. Some of Troop three are in the King’s hall accompanying their leader, Cynon, Cynfal has been ‘vamped’ by an edgy individual called Moried, and has been dismissed by Cynon, who wants a ‘word’ with his cousin Gwion. Cynon is the speaker at the beginning of the excerpt.
“Oh, one thing – if I were you, I’d take care with Moried.” He nodded a farewell and left Cynfal wondering.
How much of what had been going on with Moried had Cynon seen? And just what was he so anxious to talk to Gwion about? Obviously there was one person who would be bound to know. Cynfal had often heard men complain of women’s gossip but in his experience nobody gossiped like soldiers in camp and of them all Aeddan was the one who made it his business to know everything.
Aeddan was sitting on Cynfal’s cloak, ‘to keep it warm’ he said, and greeted Cynfal with a grin.
Ignore the ‘Read More’ button. I clicked that by accident.
Ooh, it gets betterer and betterer. Lol. Great six again honey. 🙂
(I’m back in the land of the living again)
*hugs* Glad to hear it. Are you writing? I hope so.
Hmm, it makes sense that soldiers would share gossip since they bond so strongly. Hadn’t thought about that before. I’m interested to see what happens next!
We’d call it gossip but they call it military intelligence. 😀
6 sentences at a time is SO SLOW. Might get to the end of this chapter by January.
Thanks for commenting.
Every 6 Sunday post, wow, I would so love to do that. I’ve never gotten to them all before. Well I guess I better do it soon, since the count down has begun 😦
I bet those soldiers can gossip better than teenage girls. Intriguing for sure
It took a while but it was good fun. 🙂
Thanks for commenting.
What a cast of characters you have! I want to follow them all. What’s Cynon doing? What’s Moried up to right now? Can’t wait to read this book. 🙂
Thanks lovely. I can’t wait to get the pirates sorted so I can crack on with the rest of it. Thanks for commenting.
Interesting six!
Thanks for commenting, Cara.
What? Men complaining of women’s gossiping? Oh come now! So, Aeddan is the spreader of good tidings, hey?!
Men complain of women gossiping because they are afraid the women are gossiping about them 🙂
I think Cynfal, Aeddan and co. would consider it ‘keeping one step ahead’ rather than gossip. Thanks for commenting.
I really like the sly humor in your final sentence.
Thanks, Jess. 🙂
Like the brisk pace and the way it just pushes you along. Wanted to keep reading.
That’s very good news. thanks for commenting, Eleri.
Your sixes always draw me right into the action. The pace and tension are pitch-perfect. Great six!!
You say such nice things. Thanks for commenting KE, glad you’re enjoying it.
“Gossip” is what YOU don’t consider important information. (It also seems to make up an awfully lot of the news today.)
True on both counts. I hear a lot of stuff on even the BBC where I’m left wondering who could possibly be interested in it.
But for soldiers, I suppose, it might be very useful to know which commanders are at each others throats, who is seeing whose woman behind his back, who can’t be relied upon if the going gets tough and so forth. It’s all good fun to write anyway 🙂
Great six! Love the part about how soldiers gossip more than anyone!
Thanks Nomi. 🙂 and thanks for taking the trouble to comment.
I’m intrigued by Cynfal being vamped by Moried. Heck, the whole story has me hooked. Great six!
I had to miss out a bit of said ‘vamping’ because it didn’t fit neatly into 6 sentences. 🙂 Glad you’re enjoying it and thanks for commenting.
What do you mean by vamped? Its important to have an Aeddan, without someone like that how would anyone know anything 🙂
Spot on about the Aeddan’s. The good ones save a lot of lives.
Vamped is 1920s slang [sorry am planning a spy novel set in 1928]. To vamp mean to employ sexual wiles to influence someone. Moried did his best but Cynfal wasn’t buying.:)

Love the set up here, can’t wait to read more!
Thanks Gemma 🙂 and thanks for taking the time to comment. It’s much appreciated.
Men gossiping, have you ever?! The characters are all so interesting with their own little quirks. Great 6!
I have it on good authority [my husband] that men DON’T gossip. They exchange relevant information.
yeah right 🙂
Thanks for commenting.
Love the wry humor in this. And yes, men are worse gossips than women! 🙂
Thanks Cate. Yes, they are. 🙂
Aeddan saw him coming a mile away and he’s got some good gossip, I think! (This group is as bad as a flock of hens!)
😀 yes just like a flock of hens, but oh the outrage if they heard you say that.
Thanks for commenting, Monica.
You’re so right about soldiers and gossip, and Aeddan is surely expecting him. Great six, Elin. 🙂
Thanks for commenting, Siobhan. 🙂 I need to give them something to gossip about, don’t I?
Very intriguing! Looking forward to more.
Thanks for commenting Skye. 😀
Keep it warm, indeed! Hmph. LOL. Great six, Elin, and I feel you. I’ve been trying to catch up for weeks!
Thanks Sarah, and thanks for taking the time to comment. 🙂
Lots of fun stuff here. I love the soldiers gossiping, and keeping the desk warm. 🙂 Good six.
Thanks for commenting Donna. I’m looking forward to getting the story finished.
